"What will our partners in this project want?" This is a question that I've been asking myself of late, as Dan and I make efforts to drum up support for the film.
The idea of "selling" ourselves is a dangerous thing to contemplate, because we are not looking to get sponsorship at any cost. We are not out to have the final product riddled with blatent product placement, just to satisfy the monetary needs that we have.
At the same time, when I think about it, who wouldn't want to partner with us to make it happen?! This project is epic, and something that immediately captivates the imaginations of people we've talked to. The journey's mission, to explore subjects which are now, and will continue to be important in the years to come (like environmental awareness and alternative solutions to energy production) is something that will have resonance with many people.
So, i guess my dilemma is that I want to ensure that I communicate the above effectively and passionately, without being flaky.
Another thing that I'm concerned with is deciding what my voice is going to be in this project. Should I even have an individual persepective? Or should i simply be a medium through which Dan's voice is amplified? Either way, I have a lot of research to do.

The past month has been a huge blur for me since I left Korea, where I've been teaching ESL for 2 years. Returning to the mother land has not caused culture shock, but rather lifestlye shock - rather, LACK OF lifestlye shock. However, for what ever reason - call it serendipity, fate, timing, or luck - I now find myself on board for what promises to be an expedition of discovery and adventure with my good friend, Dan.
Dan is too generous with his complements, saying that I've been a big help. Really, apart from a few editing tasks (parts of the
Windpath Films website and several drafts of a template letter for sending to people to solicit sponsorship), I've been of little use to him. However, I've always been a slow starter.
In my defence, it is a bit daunting to just dive, head first, into a project that has been growing in Dan's mind for over 4 years - very much his baby. So, the past couple weeks, I've just been gingerly picking Dan's brains to gain more meaty insights into what exactly I am getting myself into! That said, I think it's equally important for Dan to have a sounding board to air and rehash all his ideas before they meet posterity in the film. So, I'll take some props for that.
Presently, the task at hand is getting in touch with Canadian Tire, to see if
Windpath Films can secure sponsorship from them. There is no doubt that crossing Canada and traveling to the North during the midst of winter, will require the van to be properly equipped.
